Junior IBM API Connect (APIC) Developer
We are currently seeking a Junior IBM API Connect (APIC) Developer to join our Platform Team supporting one of our major financial clients.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career developer who has a strong foundation in software development and APIs and is interested in developing specialized skills in IBM API Connect and enterprise API management.
Candidates without direct IBM API Connect experience are welcome to apply. We are looking for candidates who have the right technical foundation, a strong willingness to learn, and the ability to grow into an APIC-focused role.
Role Overview
As a Junior APIC Developer, you will work with experienced developers, architects, and platform teams to design, develop, maintain, and support enterprise APIs.
You will have the opportunity to learn and gain hands-on experience with IBM API Connect, API security, API gateway policies, and enterprise API management while contributing to projects for a major Canadian financial institution.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn and work with IBM API Connect (APIC) to develop and manage enterprise APIs.
- Assist with the full API lifecycle, including API design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Develop and maintain REST and SOAP APIs and work with JSON and XML data formats.
- Assist with configuring API Gateway policies, including security, authentication, authorization, rate limiting, throttling, and data transformation.
- Support API integrations with backend systems, databases, microservices, and enterprise applications.
- Learn and apply API security concepts such as OAuth 2.0, JWT, and TLS.
- Participate in API testing, troubleshooting, debugging, and performance monitoring.
- Work with senior developers and architects to analyze requirements and implement technical solutions.
- Support API deployments through CI/CD pipelines and DevOps processes.
- Maintain technical documentation for APIs, integrations, configurations, and support procedures.
- Follow enterprise development, security, governance, and coding standards.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and team activities.
- Continuously develop technical skills in API management, integration technologies, and IBM API Connect.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Foundation
- 0–2 years of software development or related IT experience; new graduates with strong technical skills are welcome.
- Good understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, JSON, and XML.
- Basic knowledge of software development principles and object-oriented programming.
- Experience with at least one programming language such as Java, JavaScript/Node.js, Python, or similar.
- Basic understanding of databases and SQL.
- Familiarity with Git and source-code management.
- Basic understanding of software development lifecycle and testing concepts.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Learning Mindset
- IBM API Connect (APIC) experience is an asset but is not required.
- Strong interest in learning IBM API Connect, API Gateway, and enterprise API management.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly and apply new knowledge to practical problems.
- Self-motivated, curious, and willing to work with senior team members to develop specialized technical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to IBM API Connect, MuleSoft, Apigee, Kong, or other API management platforms.
- Experience developing or consuming REST or SOAP APIs.
- Familiarity with OAuth 2.0, JWT, TLS, OpenID Connect, LDAP, or SAML.
- Exposure to cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
- Understanding of microservices architecture.
- Experience working in an Agile/DevOps environment.
- Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related degree/diploma.
