Responsibilities
- Analyze database systems and document consumption patterns, access methods, application integration, database feature utilization, current and future-state designs Analyze and assess impacts due to version or platform upgrades and provide solutions to address compatibility, breaking and deprecated features and performance issues Work with Infrastructure Engineers, BA’s, developers, testers and application/data owners to complete design of target state environments (compute, storage, database configuration, application integration, authentication and security etc.)
- Apply corporate and industry standards to configure, build and operate environments (hardening, security, monitoring/alerting, backup/recovery, patching and maintenance) Gather technology requirements, document designs and specifications, submit build requests and participate in environment delivery
- Analyze, assess, test and provide recommendations to remediate code, resolve query and database performance issues
- Work with Technology Owners and Operational teams to assess, integrate and operate backup/recovery, monitoring and alerting solutions
- Develop detailed implementation plans to migrate/upgrade or re-platform on-premise databases including to cloud environments
- Prepare for operating environments (document SOPs, prepare Knowledge Base documents, conduct knowledge transfer to Operational teams)
- Participate in deployment and post-go-live warranty support
Qualifications
- Expert knowledge of Oracle Database 10g – 19c, RAC, OEM, ASM, RHEL
- Experience with planning, assessing, coordinating, implementing large-scale data migrations and database upgrades
- Knowledge with PL/SQL, database concepts (entities, relationships, views, stored procedures, functions etc), database connectivity (ODBC, OLEDB, JDBC), data access patterns, database links, database HA/DR, interpreting and testing database code written by others
- Experience with database replication technologies (Oracle streams, Golden Gate, MS SQL replication, Delphix)
- Experience in the design and build of distributed, highly available database systems
- Experience with Infrastructure Technology (compute, storage, operating systems virtualization)
- Familiarity with cloud database services (preferably Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, SQL Server on Virtual Machines, Azure Database Migration Service, Azure Synapse Analytics)
- Deploying infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code (Ansible, Azure Resource Manager)
- Backup/Recovery, alerting and monitoring technologies (OEM, SCOM, Azure SQL Analytics, Commvault)
- Superior analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and comfortable with presenting to peers, stakeholders and management
- Ability to work independently and effectively in cross-functional teams using agile methods and practices
